Description

JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the supervision of a physician and/or staff perfusionist will be capable of independently operating and maintaining autologous blood therapy devices and other related equipment. Responsible for assisting staff perfusionist in adult cardiopulmonary procedures requiring heart-lung bypass and adjunctive procedures that include VAD and ECMO. The Perfusion Assistant will aid in equipment maintenance, and assisting in the maintenance of the disposables inventory. Set-up, calibrate, and operate electronic monitoring and diagnostic equipment used during surgery and the postoperative period. Set-up and prime extracorporeal circuits. Set-up and transport intra-aortic balloon pump console. Maintain quarterly deep cleaning schedules for cardiopulmonary bypass as well as all perfusion related machines. Also, maintaining machines after each procedure. Perform weekly cleaning and daily peroxide testing for heater coolers and document appropriately. Restock perfusion supplies in OR and sterile core to pre-determined par levels on a daily basis. Enter data into the departmental database. Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school education required. Some college in biology highly desirable Associate or Bachelor's degree in biology or related sciences preferred. One year of related healthcare experience or any combination of education and experience.
