Description

JOB DESCRIPTION: Supervises day to day operations of mammography services. Works closely with the Manager of the Breast Imaging Center. Assists radiologists in performing invasive and non-invasive mammographic and sonographic procedures. Works in a relatively independent manner. Assures optimal level of patient care at all time. Performs all the functions of a Mammography Technologist II. Assists in administrative activities such as budget planning, identifying means of cost containment, coordinating staffing schedules and ensuring communication regarding areas of concern.

Facilitates patient / family education efforts by assessing the need for intervention, providing staffing coverage, and supporting and reinforcing clinical instruction. Maintains records for service and compliance with internal and external regulatory guidelines. Actively participates in preparation of regulatory agency reviews such as ACR reaccredidation, yearly updates and FDA on-site inspections. Assists in interviewing process, makes recommendations for adequate staffing. Assures the availability of equipment and supplies for all procedures; orders supplies as needed. Performs the duties of Quality Control Coordinator to comply with MQSA regulations.

Serves as arbitrator in resolution of conflicts between staff. Verifies staff time worked and prepares time sheets for payroll in accordance with policy. Handles patient questions or problems with tact and sound judgment. Demonstrates advanced leadership and supervisory skills. Demonstrates expert practitioner knowledge and skills. Provides clarification to less experienced patient care staff. Actively participates in staff development Oversees scheduling of departmental procedures, staffing and activities. Participates as needed in various performance improvement (PI), education, or safety committees.

Provides feedback to Manager concerning procedural issues and problems. Continually assesses patient flow in conjunction with manager and radiologist working in the area. Helps other technical staff maintain their schedule, assigning late patients to technologists as they become available. Provides feedback to manager concerning daily issues and problems. Functions as a clinical expert and role model in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care for mammography patients.

Demonstrates advanced leadership and clinical skills. Actively participates in developing and monitoring staff competency. Performs daily technical duties of manager in his/her absence. Works with physicians on problems with technical staffing in the absence of the manager. Reports daily operational problems to manager. Performs related responsibilities as required.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology and registered with the ARRT. Must have a minimum of four (4) years experience in diagnostic and invasive mammography. A minimum of one (1) year supervisory experience or one (1) year as a Level 3 Mammography technologist is required.



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium): 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.



ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
