We're seeking a certified Pathologist’s Assistant who is a graduate of an NAACLS Accredited PA Training Program who will support Emory Healthcare’s mission of clinical care, education, and research by demonstrating the core values of excellence, caring, and integrity.

Description

  • Provides technical assistance to pathologists in surgical pathology and autopsy procedures.
  • Participates in instructing and educating staff and residents in pathologic techniques; maintains appropriate educational literature and materials.
  • Prepares, processes, examines and assists in the analysis of tissues. Operates photography equipment.
  • Stocks and restocks grossrooms with the equipment, adequate chemicals and supplies necessary for the efficient daily operation.
  • Monitors Resident and directs the workflow for maximum efficiency of department personnel.
  • Works with manager to formulate plan for professional development.
  • Attends educational in-services as appropriate.
  • Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
  • Initiates action to obtain legal authorization for necropsy.
  • May conduct in-services for technicians and other paramedical personnel regarding services and techniques in the field of pathology.
  • Provides medical residents with instruction in the use of photography equipment and procedures for routine dissections and autopsies.
  • May dien autopsy cases to assist pathologist.
  • Provides data which indicates the presence of bio-hazards so that appropriate handling precautions may be taken.
  • Observes the principles of sterile technique in carrying out daily responsibilities.
  • Performs other related duties as required.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemical, Physical or Biological Science or certification obtained prior to 2003.
  • Must be PA(ASCP) certified and pass exam within 18 months of hire.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Medium-Heavy) 36-75 lbs, 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 20-35 lbs, 34-66% of the workday; (frequently); 10-20 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 75 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 35 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking; Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
