Description

We are seeking an experienced EMS / Public Safety professional to coordinate patient transport between Emory facilities and from outside hospitals (OSH) to designated Emory facilities and other destinations. The Acute Care Transport Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring efficient and timely patient transport of our patients. This position involves coordinating with capacity command center teams, EMS personnel, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to manage transport requests, prioritize urgent cases, and optimize resource utilization. The Transport Coordinator serves as the central point of communication, ensuring all transport operations comply with relevant processes, protocols, and regulations. This individual will:

  • Coordinate and dispatch ambulances and other medical transport vehicles according to the urgency, patient condition, and resource availability.
  • Discharge transport and Interfacility planning and coordination
  • Ensure accurate documentation of all transport requests, vehicle movements, and system status updates.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between EMS teams, Capacity Command Center staff, healthcare providers, patients, and families to ensure seamless coordination of transport operations. 
  • Provide timely and precise updates to all stakeholders regarding the status and progress of transport requests.
  • Monitor and manage the availability of ambulances, transport vehicles, and EMS personnel.
  • Optimize scheduling to ensure maximum efficiency and minimize response times.
  • Assist in the allocation of specialized transport resources for critical or high-risk patients.
  • Ensure all transport operations comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as organizational protocols.
  • Engage in continuous quality improvement initiatives to enhance the safety and effectiveness of transport services.
  • Record essential details such as patient demographics, medical history, and current health status. 
  • Document specifics of transport operations, including routes taken, times, and any incidents or issues that arise during transport.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Minimum of 2 years EMS / Public safety experience as EMD.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate's degree or higher: in EMS, healthcare management, or a related healthcare field (Preferred)
  • EMS Certification: Previous National Registry Certification and or State licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician Intermediate, Advanced EMT (AEMT) or Paramedic
  • Highly preferred Knowledge, skills, and ability requirements: The EMS Transport Coordinator must be an adept problem solver, capable of identifying and addressing challenges that arise in transport operations to ensure seamless patient transfers. This role requires a proactive approach in developing innovative solutions to optimize transport processes, enhance patient care, and streamline communication across diverse teams, including EMS personnel, healthcare providers, and command center staff. Additionally, the coordinator must have the ability to work autonomously and be a self-starter, effectively managing tasks and responsibilities with minimal supervision.
