TITLE: Mgr., Laboratory
DUTIES: Oversee day to day operations of clinical or research laboratory(s): Direct the administrative functions and customer service in area(s) of responsibility. Coordinate technical functions with technical coordinators/supervisors, directors and other hospital departments. Develop policies/procedures, oversee training programs, administer budgets, recommend capital equipment purchases, and ensure department meets established laboratory and hospital objectives and complies with regulatory guidelines. Keep abreast of regulatory changes, ensure Quality Assurance and safety compliance with federal regulations and certifying agencies. Ensure preparation for inspections, maintenance of accurate records, procedure manuals, record storage and monitors results of proficiency testing. Plan, prepare and monitor the capital equipment, operations and personnel budgets for the department. Regularly review year to date expenses and variances. Investigate and justify variance and implements corrective actions. Coordinate with other laboratory leadership in developing goals and objectives for the laboratory. Analyze laboratory strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and constraints to direct resources to accomplish objectives.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Lab Science, or a related chemical, physical or biological science and five (5) years of experience as a Medical Technologist or related healthcare experience where required experience gained.
SPECIAL SKILLS: Also requires experience in the following:
• Four (4) years of supervisory experience;
• For qualifying experience as a Medical Technologist, must hold a certification by one of the following accreditation agencies: American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), the American Medical Technologists (AMT), the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA), the American Association of Bioanalysts (ABB), or another agency approved by the GA Department of Community Health, generalist or categorical if applicable. RN licensure acceptable for non-testing departments;
• Developing laboratory wide policies/procedures in accordance with the hospital/university and regulatory agencies;
• Evaluating and implementing operational changes to improve the quality and efficiency of laboratory services;
• Preparing reports identifying quality improvement and laboratory accomplishments;
• Assisting in preparing operational, statistical reports for regulatory agencies, productivity monitoring and benchmarking activities; and
• Providing various managerial reports related to laboratory operations, finances, employee training/competency, safety and infection control.
