JOB DESCRIPTION:
- The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is the clinical lead for a program or an area of defined nursing practice.
- Provides leadership in order to integrate new knowledge and innovation within a specialty area.
- Utilizes specialized knowledge and skills within the three spheres of influence: patient/family, nurses, and the organization/system.
- Collaborates with the Nursing Director(s) to lead clinical practice and education on the unit, with in the division, and across the health system.
- Accountable for designing, implementing, and measuring safe, cost effective, evidence-based care strategies.
- Contributes to the advancement of nursing practice at the unit/system, local, state and national and international levels and is instrumental in the application of the Professional Practice/Care Transformation Model across the health system.
- Leads implementation of the Care Transformation Model. Leads programs and initiatives that are congruent with EHC and nursing's strategic plan.
- Models transformational leadership behaviors. Demonstrates leadership in ethical decision- making and patient advocacy.
- Engages in ongoing self- evaluation, seeking input from colleagues, other professionals, patients, and families.
- Leads implementation in the principles of fair and just culture.
- Provides direct care for complex patient with multi system care issues. Issues may include: biophysical, psycho-emotional, spiritual at the individual, family and community level.
- Proficient in use of technology to expedite care.
- Works jointly with nurses and other disciplines to promote patient and family-centered care.
- Utilizes principles of effective communication.
- Is cognizant of the diverse needs of patients, staff, and other professionals.
- Considers cultural influences when collaborating with patients, family, and staff.
- Works with manager to formulate plan for professional development.
- Attends educational in-services as appropriate.
- Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
- Utilizes coaching to facilitate optimally functioning teams.
- Coaches staff and others and utilizes advanced communication skills.
- Mentors and coaches professional development.
- Provides expert nursing consultation to nurses, physicians, patients and families and others to promote quality care.
Effectively communicates with the multidisciplinary team.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have a valid, active unencumbered Nursing license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board;
- Master's degree in nursing;
- Meets GA Board of Nursing requirements for CNS;
- Three years of clinical nursing experience as a Registered Nurse with at least two years of recent experience in the area of concentration.
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
