Description

The Patient Flow Director resides in Emory Healthcares Capacity Command Center and is responsible for overseeing and optimizing acute patient access and patient flow across the healthcare system. This role involves strategic planning, coordination, and management of patient movement to ensure efficient and effective healthcare delivery and has direct oversight of the transfer center and patient flow teams. The Patient Flow Director will work closely with various departments, including nursing, administration, and digital, to implement best practices and improve patient throughput. 

  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize patient flow and reduce bottlenecks in the healthcare system. 
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize targeted acute referral groups to align with Emorys strategic mission
  • Collaborate with the Capacity Command Center executive leadership to align processes and procedures to the strategic direction and growth of the Capacity Command Center 
  • Collaborate with department heads and staff across the system to identify and address patient flow issues.
  • Monitor and analyze patient flow data to identify trends and areas for improvement. 
  • Monitor and analyze transfer center data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance patient experience and satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards related to transfer services and patient flow.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to patient flow coordinators, transfer center, bed planning coordinators and other relevant staff.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures related to transfer center and patient flow management. 
  • Coordinate with IT to implement and maintain transfer center and patient flow management systems.
  • Prepare and present reports on referral trends and patient flow performance to senior leadership.

    Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelors degree in healthcare administration, nursing, or a related field 
  • Experience: - Minimum of 7 years of experience in healthcare management, with a focus on transfer center, patient flow or operations. - Evidence of consistent career progression.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Ability Requirements: - Strong leadership, team management and communication skills. - Ability to analyze data and develop actionable insights. - Knowledge of healthcare regulations, operations, healthcare standards, transfer center and patient flow processes. - Proficiency in patient flow management systems and software.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams. - Strategic planning and problem-solving. - Data analysis and interpretation. - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications: 1. Education: Masters degree preferred 2. Knowledge, Skills, and Ability: Proficiency in relevant software and technology.
