Description

  • Makes physiological assessments and develops exercise programs which will build and improve upon the patient's level of physical fitness.
  • Measures and analyzes body composition including body fat, lean muscle mass, tone, desirable weight, and other factors used to determine fitness level and establish fitness goals.
  • Identifies measurable goals and objectives for the patient to reach through physical activity and exercise.
  • Leads and instructs exercise classes for patients participating in exercise therapy; monitors BP before and after exercise.
  • Adapts exercise programs for special populations and individual needs and limitations.
  • Assists cardiology clinical staff with stress testing and adapting testing protocols for individuals with physical limitations.
  • Develops and implements individual exercise programs in collaboration with other members of the health care team to aid in rehabilitation and prevention of cardiac disease.
  • Participates in patient/client education on prevention and development of heart disease, exercise benefits, cardiac rehabilitation, and mentoring via INTERxVENT education program.
  • Organizes and plans safe internal and external activities for clients.
  • Participates in quarterly mock emergency drills.
  • Responds appropriately during patient emergency situations; assists other ACLS prepared staff in responding to a client's hemodynamic induced symptoms along with emotional, physical, and psychological needs.
  • Prepares exit exercise prescriptions for patients graduating to a home program or continuing in the maintenance program.
  • Participates in patient care rounds and discusses client issues with case manager.
  • Provides instruction in the proper use of exercise equipment ensures its safe operation to maximize the benefits.
  • Maintains equipment and arranges for repairs or correction of malfunctions.
  • Records and maintains documentation required by the department in accordance with established department policies.
  • Compiles participant attendance and progress information daily for referring physicians.
  • Updates computer and prepares hard copy of prescription as necessary.
  • Supervises exercise interns working with the program; participates in education of medical interns, residents, and fellows; participates in educating ancillary disciplines (allied health) regarding prevention of cardiac disease and cardiac rehabilitation.
  • Maintains an open channel of communication with INTERxVENT main office regarding educational materials, updating educational materials, ordering supplies, and/or questions about action plans and progress reports.
  • Assists in writing policies and procedures for exercise programs and program activities. 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate's Degree required.
  • Bachelor's degree in exercise science preferred.
  • Six months of related experience and/or training or has completed an internship with Emory Healthcare.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
