Shift: 7:00am - 7:30pm, rotating weekends & holidays

 

Emory Medical Laboratory's mission is to transform health and healing by providing high quality, cost-effective, innovative laboratory services which enhance patient health. We're seeking a Lab Tech Specialist I who is a certified medical laboratory scientist with a background in Microbiology. This individual:

 

  • Performs advanced specialized laboratory procedures and evaluates data reliability.
  • Takes appropriate corrective action.
  • Teaches procedure theory and techniques and provides advanced troubleshooting support on methodologies and instrumentation.
  • Orders and maintains supplies and equipment for developmental testing.
  • Teaches theory and clinical procedures to Medical Technology students, graduate students, and pathology residents.
  • Develops and conducts inservice training and continuing education programs for technologists.
  • Develops or updates laboratory procedures.
  • Performs advanced developmental and routine procedures as required.
  • Develops teaching protocols for specialized testing.
  • Researches documents and journals for developments in the field.
  • Assists in writing scientific articles regarding clinical procedures developed in the laboratory.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 

Skills Needed:

 

  • Extensive experience with LIS validation processes and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to multi-task administrative duties along with patient care duties to meet departmental goals.
  • Knowledge of the overall safety protocols as mandated by CAP, OSHA and other regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to influence coworkers to accomplish assignments associated with safety learning requirements.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical lab science or a chemical, physical or biological science.
  • Other bachelor's degree will be accepted if graduated from an accredited school of medical technology or if science and math coursework meet requirement of certifying agency.
  • Education Exception: Bachelor's degree may be waived for a medical technologist who was ASCP certified in the years prior to the bachelor's degree requirement by ASCP and a HEW/HHS technologist certified by Health and Human Services.
  • Bachelor's degree may be waived for histotechnologists with HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP).
  • Two years required with three years of related laboratory experience preferred.
  • Positions in this classification may require certification in a particular laboratory specialty.
