This Position is Located at Emory Decatur Hospital

 

The Perinatal Sonographer:

  • Performs diagnostic transvaginal and transabdominal obstetric ultrasound.
  • Has advanced knowledge of fetal abnormalities and their diagnoses via ultrasound.
  • Proficient in performing scans of various anatomical areas and identifying cross sectional human anatomy, distinguishing normal from abnormal, to establish initial evaluation of sonograms.
  • Selects proper transducer and technical factors for accurate ultrasound procedures, which may include Doppler, color Doppler imaging, M-mode and real time.
  • Calibrates, adjusts, and maintains ultrasound equipment. Evaluates new products and equipment for possible future use.
  • Utilizes non-standard techniques when necessary with independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the performance of ultrasonography for diagnosis.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and patient service skills to work effectively with physicians, patients and other staff members. Demonstrate proficiency with computer skills and software programs.
  • Effective oral and written professional communication skills. Reviews medical records to obtain necessary clinical information including patient history, lab results, and physician orders prior to examination, and communicates with patients to obtain history data.
  • Ability to demonstrate and professional behaviors at all times. Ability to use initiative and independent judgement.
  • Demonstrate critical care skills to patients with higher acuity. Participates in department quality assurance studies, and prepares and maintains records of ultrasound examinations. Assists in the clinical instruction of OB/GYN residents.
  • Participated in the formal ultrasound education of the MFM fellows. Demonstrates responsibility for own professional growth through pursuit of work-related experiences and educational opportunities.
  • Create preliminary prenatal ultrasound reports for each study performed with detailed information regarding abnormalities identified including fetal echocardiograms.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Ultrasound and at a minimum be registered as a Medical Sonographer (RDMS) with OB/GYN issued by the American Registry of Diagnostic Med Sonography (ARDMS); Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registration with Fetal Echocardiography issued by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) preferred; Nuchal Translucency credential issued by the Nuchal Translucency Quality Review; and advanced training that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Sonography.
  • 3 years experience and fetal echo, or 6 years of experience with or w/out echo.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
