As a New Grad RN in our Intro to Ambulatory Services you will have the unique opportunity to gain a diverse clinical experience by rotating through 5 specialty areas (i.e. Primary Care, Internal Medicine, Dermatology, Endocrinology, and Neurology), which will serve to assist your acclimation to not only the nursing practice, but Ambulatory Services. This role is perfect for a new graduate who is looking to develop a broad skill set and adapt to different clinical environments.

Here's How it Works:

  • After the first (2) of general orientation activities (i.e. classes, online modules, etc.), the nurse resident will rotate weekly between the (5) specialty areas mentioned above and requires travel to the following areas (Clifton Rd., Midtown, Atlanta Airport, Church St. in Decatur, and North Druid Hills)
  • Up to 24 weeks of comprehensive orientation experience with a dedicated preceptor.
  • By month 11 of orientation, the nurse resident will apply for transfer into a vacant Nurse Clinician position within Ambulatory Services. ****

Cohorts:

  • Cohorts are determined based on your start date. Applications for the Nurse Residency Program are always open, and if hired, your cohort will be determined by your start date.
  • For consideration for the Critical Care Units, having clinical experience, externships, senior practicums or have taken specific courses as part of the nursing cirriculum is highly preferred.

Description

The Resident RN Clinician is an entry-level nurse participating in the Nursing Residency Program (NRP) to develop clinical skills and apply newly acquired knowledge in patient care. Under supervision, the residents learn to assess patient needs, implement care plans, and evaluate patient outcomes. With experience, they integrate with the AACN Synergy Model for Patient Care to provide individualized care.

  • Develops basic assessment skills and applies nursing knowledge to patient care.
  • Recognizes the impact of nursing interventions on patient outcomes.
  • Documents patient care accurately in electronic and physical records.
  • Identifies patient and family learning needs and utilizes resources accordingly. 
  • Demonstrates time management and delegation skills based on the Synergy Model. 
  • Functions as a Charge Nurse only in extenuating circumstances.
  • Enhances listening abilities and recognizes obstacles to effective communication.
  • Seeks assistance when needed and collaborates with the healthcare team.
  • Ensures efficient use and accurate billing of medical supplies.
  • Upholds and ensures the confidentiality of patient information.
  • Identifies personal learning needs and engages in continuous education.
  • Completes orientation, annual health assessments, and regulatory/safety training. 
  • Successfully completes the residency program and maintains required performance standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited prelicensure Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program
  • New graduate with no experience. Entry-level nurses serving in their first nursing role are required to participate in the NRP
  • Must enter the program within 12 months of graduation (exceptions considered for personal or military commitments)
  • Emory employees enrolled in an Emory ADN program as of 3/30/2025 must sign an obligation agreement to complete an ADN-to-BSN program within two years of entering the Resident RN Clinician role
  • Must have a valid, active unencumbered Nursing license or temporary permit approved by the Georgia Licensing Board
  • BLS certification
  • ACLS may be required for certain departments, post hire
  • Additional certifications may be required based on department and specialty
