The Program Manager of Infectious Disease position, in partnership with EHC Antimicrobial Stewardship teams, provides strategic leadership for antimicrobial stewardship and utilization management across the enterprise, including overseeing antimicrobial processes/protocols, quality improvement initiatives, and education. This position will co-lead the EHC system Committee on Antimicrobial Stewardship and work closely with leadership, staff, and providers to improve patient safety, reduce errors, and improve appropriateness and quality of patient care through the promotion of judicious use of antimicrobials. Maintains effective working relationships with all parties and acts as a system antimicrobial stewardship administrative liaison between leadership, pharmacy, infectious disease, hospital epidemiology/infection control and staff. Serves as a resource and project manager in addressing strategic initiatives related to antimicrobial stewardship. Perform Antimicrobial Stewardship clinical activities as needed.

 

Job responsibilities: Provides system leadership in strategy, planning, and implementation of antimicrobial stewardship goals and objectives. Collaborates with system leaders, staff, and physicians to design quality improvement solutions and work to ensure system implementation. Seeks thoughtful input from appropriate parties and is viewed as a resource and problem solver. Identifies opportunities for performance improvement related to antimicrobial utilization throughout the system. Works with medical staff and leadership to develop and implement processes and protocols to improve use of antimicrobials. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with physicians, pharmacists, staff and leadership. Recognizes the need for change and communicates with others to reduce resistance when implementing new processes and programs. Identifies individual/group antimicrobial prescribing practices and implements action plans when necessary. Responsible for analytically evaluating system data for trends and opportunities in addition to collating and reviewing annual system antibiograms and reporting antimicrobial utilization and antimicrobial resistance information to NHSN. Acts as a resource for difficult to treat infections or emerging pathogens that may arise at facilities. Work to ensure Emory Healthcare maintains compliance with CMS and TJC conditions of participation for antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention. Provides education for hospital staff in groups and to individuals. Performs other duties as needed.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • PGY-2 Infectious Disease (preferred) or equivalent experience, 5 years of infectious disease experience (healthcare system experience preferred), 3 years experience leading or participating in antimicrobial stewardship activities. Preferred: BCIDP Infectious Disease. Experience with large-scale data analytics and Epic
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate ability to engage with Medical Staff and departments internally and externally in matters pertaining to ASP service delivery; be an effective communicator, including managing challenging team interactions, and have strong organizational skills, exemplary work ethic, and commitment to providing long term high-quality services.
  • Ethical decision making and experience in policy and guideline development are required, in addition to a commitment to achieving established goals and objectives and ensuring program delivery measurements and standards in a large organization.
