Description

The Personal Trainer will provide clinical monitoring and advice regarding physical activity for program participants in the Mild Cognitive Impairment Empowerment Program (MCIEP). Will also provide individual physical assessments of program participants, facilitate goal-setting sessions and lead monthly orientation sessions. Facilitates quarterly physical activity reassessments for each participant.

  • Responsible for planning and facilitating physical activity core and offerings of MCI Empowerment Program.
  • Facilitates peer groups that attend twice-weekly exercise classes for six months to a year.
  • Leads study participants in group exercise sessions with both aerobic and strength training.
  • Conducts brief study visits and assess for common exercise induced injuries and adverse events.
  • Provides participant education materials and assists in maintaining subject database and programs.
  • Monitors incoming data for accuracy and troubleshoots for technical problems. 
  • Maintains the integrity of the project protocol.
  • Monitors the safety and confidentiality of the project and its subjects.
  • Assist the Principal Investigator with Institutional Review Board amendments, continuations, and renewals as they pertain to the exercise intervention.
  • Stays up to date with training to work with human subjects.
  • Ensures data is scored and entered correctly and reconciled per guidelines from the Principal Investigator.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in Exercise Science or a related field.
  • Completion of an internship or one year of directly related experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is required.

 

PREFERENCES:

  • American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Exercise is Medicine (EIM) certified or EIM certification eligible.
  • Experience leading physical activity classes such as strength training and dynamic balance, in addition to classes such as yoga and tai chi.
  • Experience working with and/or ability to connect with Mild Cognitive Impairment population, previous Brain Health experience a plus but not mandatory.
  • Works well in ambiguous environments, as role will evolve as program is built/established.
  • Motivated self-starter, requiring minimal to moderate amount of supervision.

Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required.
