Description

Shift: 7am - 3:30pm

 

Emory Medical Laboratory's mission is to transform health and healing by providing high quality, cost-effective, innovative laboratory services which enhance patient health. We're seeking an SBB certified Laboratory Manager with a background in Blood Bank. This individual:

 

  • Oversees day to day operations of clinical or research laboratory(s):
  • Develops policies/procedures, oversees training programs, administers budgets, recommends capital equipment purchases, and ensures department meets established laboratory and hospital objectives and complies with regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensures preparation for inspections, maintenance of accurate records, procedure manuals, record storage and monitors results of proficiency testing.
  • Analyzes laboratory strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and constraints to direct resources to accomplish objectives.
  • Manage retention and recruitment.
  • Effectively manages employee performance; addresses problems by listening to employees and providing employees with feedback, identifying ways to develop skills to perform their job effectively.
  • Develops laboratory wide policies/procedures in accordance with the hospital/ university and regulatory agencies.
  • Ensures that departmental productivity meets or exceeds standards for maximum operational efficiency.
  • Provides various managerial reports related to laboratory operations, finances, employee training/ competency, safety and infection control.
  • Serves as liaison between laboratory and patients, physicians, nurses, staff and other institutions.

 

Qualifications Needed:

 

  • SBB (ASCP) certification
  • Transfusion Service experience


Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical lab science or a chemical, physical or biological science.
  • Other bachelor's degree will be accepted if graduated from an accredited school of medical technology or if science and math coursework meet requirement of certifying agency.
  • Five years of medical technology or healthcare experience of which four years in a supervisory capacity is preferred.
  • For Medical Technologists, certification by one of the following accreditation agencies: MT (ASCP), HTL (ASCP), CT(ASCP) (ASCP), MT(HEW), MT(HHS), MT(AMT), MT(NCA), CHT or CHS(ABHI), MT (AAB), generalist or categorical if applicable.
  • RN licensure acceptable for non-testing departments.
  • For positions managing Laboratory Support Services functions, the following qualifications are acceptable: Bachelor's degree in relevant field, including business (health administration or IT preferred), clinical lab science or a chemical, physical or biological science.
  • Five years healthcare experience of which four years in a supervisory capacity is preferred.
  • Certification as PBT (ASCP, NHA or equivalent) strongly preferred.
