The shift for this position is 2:45p-11:15p Sun-Thurs.

Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Perform routine assays and general clerical tasks. Perform high-complexity histocompatibility testing on various types of clinical samples. Tests may include: HLA antibody screen and identification, crossmatching, typing, and engraftment monitoring. Analyze and evaluate results, and generate and evaluate clinical reports.
  • Perform initial review of sample processing, test preparation, testing results, and generate reports. Participate in quality assurance and quality control procedures and initiate corrective action for errors, as needed.
  • Participate in equipment maintenance, instrumentation calibration, quality control and documentation, and maintain adequate levels of supplies and equipment.
  • Studies HLA related theory to better understand discipline. Must be able to take on-call assignments in one discipline for nights, holidays, and weekends on a rotating basis. Other duties may also be assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology or a chemical, physical or biological science.
  • Other bachelor's degree will be accepted if graduated from an accredited school of medical technology or if science and math coursework meet requirement of certifying agency.
  • Bachelor's degree may be waived for a medical technologist who was ASCP certified in the years prior to the bachelor's degree requirement by ASCP and a HEW/HHS technologist certified by Health and Human Services.
  • For non-medical technology degrees, must pass certification exam within 18 months after completion of one year of training as a Histocompatibility Technician.
  • For Medical Technology degrees, must pass certification exam within 18 months of employment.
  • Certification must be obtained by one of the following accreditation agencies: MT (ASCP), MLS(ASCP) or categorical, MT(NCA), MT(AMT), MT(HHS or HEW), CHT(ABHI), CHS(ABHI).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (Medium):

 

20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing), Physical demands may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.

Additional Details

HLA Technologist I-IV, Salary: $27.45-$60.04/hour, The grade and salary of the position are based on specific criteria met within the qualifications of each level, relevant experience, skills, performance and internal equity. This position is eligible for shift differentials.
